Microaggression

A former molloy employee would touch my hair in passing like I were the office pet and said she loved when my hair was “wild” like Diana Ross.
A student put me in an uncomfortable position during a class discussion about privilege and access to opportunity. The professor was trying to explain to the student that a person with certain overlapping identities living in a certain part of the country would not have the access to the same opportunities as someone with the ideal characteristics, living in a more affluent part of the country. The student proceeded to try to use me as an example as to how that wasn’t true by saying “Well what about you(called me by name), you don’t agree right?” I was the only student in the class who had a few of those overlapping identities. I was horrified. I’ve been followed around in a store. I’ve been asked whether the rest of my family looks like me, I assume the assumption is that I’m adopted.
As a child, I’ve heard other parents tell my mom how well-spoken & behaved I seem, upon first meeting us. I’ve heard two white students on two different occasions use the n-slur in casual conversation in front of black students.
